Public health pages are easier to use when you read them as documents: who published them, when they were updated, who they are for, and which facts they actually state. This lesson is the method behind the CDC, Florida DOH, and Orlando park guides. A .gov or city URL is the citation; a clinician is the person who applies it to you.
“If you're concerned about your weight or have questions about your medications, talk with your health care provider.”, CDC, Steps for Losing Weight
Four checks before you trust a number
- Publisher. CDC, Florida Department of Health, City of Orlando, and Orange County Parks print their names in the header. Commercial diet pages are a different class of source.
- Date. CDC’s Steps for Losing Weight carries 17 January 2025; the weight-and-activity page carries 7 April 2026 in the fetch used for these lessons. If the live page has moved, believe the live page.
- Audience. Adult minutes are not child minutes. CDC’s child pages name 60 minutes a day for ages 6 to 17. County WIC pages are for eligible women, infants, and children under five.
- What the sentence actually claims. “Adults need 150 minutes” is a federal guideline. “You should lose 20 pounds this month” is not on the CDC steps page. CDC warns that unrealistic goals backfire.
Kinds of public pages this guide cites
| Class | Example | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Federal guideline | CDC adult activity overview | Weekly minutes and muscle-strengthening days |
| Federal how-to | CDC Steps for Losing Weight | Five process steps; clinician referral |
| State / county health | floridahealth.gov county sites | Clinics, WIC, local programs |
| City or county park | orlando.gov park pages | Trails, sidewalks, rec buildings |
What to take to a clinician
Print or bookmark the CDC or county page you read. Note the updated date. Write the one number you want interpreted (weekly minutes, a WIC eligibility question, a park you can reach). Hours and fees for buildings stay on the city or county URL. Questions about medicines, conditions, and personal targets stay with the clinician. That is how the CDC page itself closes the loop.
Map the method onto Orlando
Federal minutes → activity lesson. Federal steps → steps lesson. County doors → Florida DOH lesson. Sidewalks and trails → walks. Gymnasiums and centers → public rec.
